Taking the time to reflect on what we are thankful for is far to often taken for granted. When we are healthy we usually do not think about how fortunate it is to have good health until you experience illness. When your family and friends are well, again we do not notice how fortunate we are until someone close is a suffering from a problem. Experiencing good relations with our employers is often overshadowed by poor relations with difficult management at another. So this Thanksgiving please take the time to reflect on what you have to be thankful for. Your Union office is thankful for the Local 459 Membership, efficient office staff, competent Representatives and dedicated Officers. Maybe you are thankful for your co-workers, your family, your community and our jobs. This Thanksgiving as we celebrate all we have and appreciate those around us, we will have an opportunity to make a choice. Do we stay home and rest with your family and pick at the leftovers, or do we go shopping at retail stores, stores that have forced their low wage non-union employees to come in and work? I am thankful that many of us in Local 459 do not have to work, but if we shop on Thanksgiving day...what does that say about our values? This is of course food for thought to discuss around the bird. mashed potatoes and stuffing, and as hardworking and proud union members - this may be the perfect time to discuss this with the young ones at the dinner table. Happy holidays everybody.
