Message from Business Manager Paul Cameron

The last 5 months have been nothing less then a blur. It seems like we just celebrated the 4th of July. A much-appreciated highlight during the past few months has been the outpouring of members offering to help in anyway they can. However, there has not been any shortage of issues to keep your Local staff extremely busy. Ranging from expired contracts with the Village of Westfield, N.Y. and A.M.E.S. in Johnstown, Pa. to grievances handled daily from the shop floor by the capable 459 Stewards.

Senior Representative Scott Baker and the Atlantic Broad Band negotiating committee finalized and ratified an agreement months before the expiration date. Sr. Rep Jay Schlegel, President Keith Kinsman and the negotiating committee for West Penn Oil located in Warren, Pa. also came to agreement that was also ratified by the membership.

At the time of this update, Asst. Business Manager Greg Wolf, Business Representative Ron Itell, the negotiating committee and myself continue to meet with NRG to work toward agreement at the Homer City plant. The currant agreement expires Dec. 31, 2013. The outstanding issues continue to be health care, pension, 401k and wages. I would like to take this opportunity to wish a safe and Happy Thanksgiving to the office staff, the members and the Officers of Local 459 and thank you for all you do.
