Our Local has been through so much over the last few years. With summer fast approaching, take some time to be with family and friends. While this might sound weird coming from the Business Manager, if this means missing a union meeting, then I completely understand.
Since our Local is so diverse and representing many different classifications in such a large geographic area, what I have experienced, is that at any given instance 80% of my time and that of the Business Reps, is spent handling issues involving 20% of the members, negotiating agreements, discipline issues, arbitrations and many other workplace problems that arise. Everyone on staff would like to be at every social event, workplace, etc., but we have our jobs to do and helping the 20% of the members at any given time is the priority.
For the summer of 2018 the 20% will be members working at the Homer City Generating Station. With the current contract set to expire on September 30, 2018 we have begun preparations for negotiations. Every member at H.C. should prepare themselves for difficult negotiations. It is just good unionism. The 2018 negotiating committee has been appointed and information will soon be going out to all members working under the agreement for input and to submit proposals. In the fall of 2018, Warren Electric Coop. and Latrobe Widow at the Keystone site, will have negotiations underway.
On Penelec property our Reps are meeting with management to amend the Erie and Johnstown Network and the Relay Tech agreements. More information to follow.
Thank you to all that came out for the road clean up on May 18, 2018 to take part in our PA. Adopt-A-Highway program and helped pick up litter on our assigned section of Rt. 210. Please enjoy your summer, because you have all earned it.
