Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and 53 other Founding Fathers ratified the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. They literally put their necks on the line for liberty. Their struggle gave birth to this great nation of ours and in the centuries that followed, millions of hardworking Americans have worked and fought, inspired by that same spirit. Because of those before us, we can pursue happiness in our work and live freely with our families, our union, and the communities we call home.
So on behalf of myself and our union's leadership, we want to wish you a safe and happy July 4th holiday weekend. Enjoy the fireworks, barbecues, time with your friends and family, and the warm weather. Remember the true meaning of this special day, and make sure to keep our troops serving overseas in your thoughts and thank a veteran for their service.
